Meta Tag Help
Definition of Meta Tags - An HTML tag placed within the header area of code for a web site. This information is visible only to spiders and does not appear as a visual part of the web site. These tags are used by webmasters to provide information about the content of a web site in order to assist search engines in indexing the content.
- 45% off all searches are for phrases with 3 or more words.
- Fewer, more targeted phrases will increase the relevancy of the webpage and will provide a greater benefit. Aim for around 5 to 10 phrases in each meta description.
- Try to use some of your keyword in your meta tag description.
- Seach Engines that Do Not use meta tags (unless you offer little content) are: Google, Aol and Yahoo.
- Search Engines that Do use meta tags (for the time being) are: Inktomi, MSN and many smaller search engines.
- Search Engines will also find keywords and descriptions outside the meta tags. Especially the search engines that don't rely on meta tags.
- Avoid using more than 20 to 25 meta tag keywords per page.
- The best way to list your keywords are with a coma and a space. Example: keyword 1, keyword 2, keyword 3, etc...
- Smaller Engines, most of which you may never heard of, will send traffic to your site if you have good meta tags.
- If your site is of a specific type, say you sell stereo equipment, using model numbers in you meta keywords will help get you prime targeted visitors. Same goes if your looking to get visitors from a specific area, using locations in your meta keywords will help get the visitors you are looking to target.
- One last tip for meta keyword, try using different and mis-spelled words. For example: shop, shoppe, nickel, nickle. This is also a good idea for keywords you use in Paid Per Click (PPC) Search Engine Placement, such as Google Adwords. Many people don't spell the same or correct.
